Jennifer Stinton (Flute)

Iain Ledingham (Conductor/Pianist)

  • MOZART  Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major

  • HAYDN  Symphony No. 83 (La Poule)

  • C.P.E. BACH  Flute Concerto in D minor

  • MOZART  Symphony No. 40 in G minor

The Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major is one of the loveliest of the great series of concertos Mozart composed in Vienna.  The orchestration is wonderfully colourful, with much soloistic writing for the woodwind instruments in collaboration with the solo pianist.  This G major work makes a fine match for the great Symphony No. 40 in G minor which will end the programme.  Perhaps the best known of all Mozart’s symphonies, it is a dramatic and profound work which repays many hearings.

Our principal flautist, Jennifer Stinton, has recorded concertos with leading orchestras including the English Chamber Orchestra, Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Orchestra.  We look forward greatly to hearing her play C.P.E. Bach’s remarkable D minor Concerto.  He was the most famous of J.S. Bach’s sons, and his music bridges the gap between the Baroque and classical styles.

Haydn’s Symphony No. 83 'La Poule - The Hen' displays his characteristic humour and brilliance, including hilarious clucking noises.  This splendid programme will resound to fine effect in the lovely acoustic of St James’ Church, Gerrards Cross.

Tickets: £22 (reserved), £16 (reserved), Students £5
