About Us
The main aim of Amersham Festival of Music is to promote music-making of the highest professional quality in
the local area. The main festival takes place for 2 to 3 weeks in April and we also promote an autumn-winter
season of concerts by our own Festival Chamber Orchestra. Now in its 40th year there has been a substantial
development in terms of the scope and size of our musical endeavours - all made possible by sponsorship from
companies and individuals, and the encouraging support of our local audience. Perhaps the most exciting and
bold development in recent years has been performances of operas, either in concert performances or in staged
or semi-staged productions. In addition to classical concerts, the festival programme also includes jazz, vocal and
choral concerts, a study day, masterclasses and a dinner concert at Chenies Manor.
From the beginning of the Festival, it became apparent that many of the members of our audience were enormously
enthusiastic about the music offered and the ethos of the Festival. They wished to offer their support and this laid the
foundation for the Friends Scheme, which continues today. There are about 200 members and many offer most valuable
feedback to our Director and the Committee . Priority booking is given to Friends.
We also aim to support young people with their musical studies and to that end we operate a bursary scheme. We have just awarded
our fiftieth bursary. We regularly include a ‘Young Artist Recital’ in the festival programme.
Although we have a loyal and enthusiastic audience we would like to encourage new audience members and hope that more people will
come and experience these high quality concerts. The festival programme really does include something for a wide variety of musical tastes.
