Welcome to The Amersham Festival of Music website. For more than thirty years, the Amersham Festival of Music has been one of the top annual music events in South Bucks.

The festival has grown steadily in that time and now runs for 3 or more weeks each spring and also includes a winter season of concerts featuring our own Festival Orchestra.

Our aim in starting the Festival was to promote music-making of the highest professional quality in the local area, using some of the very attractive local venues available to us.

Works are performed both by our own Festival Orchestra and also by a wide variety of visiting guest performers including both professional musicians and talented amateurs.

Previous concerts have included everything from Vivaldi to Verdi and Elgar to Ellington in a wide range of musical styles including:-

  • Baroque

  • Jazz

  • Major choral works

  • Chamber concerts

  • Opera

  • Classical

The festival also includes a substantial educational element offering a bursary scheme for local aspiring young musicians. We also hold Masterclasses and Study Days with top musicians.

Covid-19 update

Following the necessary cancellation of the April 2020 Festival we would like to thank all those people who generously made a donation to help mitigate our losses. These donations have enabled us to offer some support to some of our musicians most in need and their gratitude has been heartfelt.

At the time that the Government restrictions were imposed we had already planned a “normal” Winter Series programme. However, given the current uncertainties, we cannot predict when, or under what conditions, musical activities will be able to restart.  We are planning to record 2 concerts featuring Iain Ledingham and some of his favourite soloists. The musicians are booked and keen to perform, but currently venue and travel restrictions mean that we will have to wait a little later in the Spring to make the recordings. Please continue to check the website.

While some have had a rest during lockdown, our Musical Director, Iain Ledingham, has been as busy as ever. Click here to read what he has been up to.

For a little musical entertainment, take a look at this video by Soprano Nia Coleman who sang so beautifully for us in our last winter festival.
