CHILTERN MUSIC ACADEMY is an independent centre of vibrant community music making. A carefully designed series of activities helps children aged 4-18 to fulfil their potential in an atmosphere of encouragement and fun. Since its foundation in 2014, CMA has maintained a reputation for excellence, having won many musical and educational awards for its work. Managed and governed by teachers and parents, the charity’s passion is to ensure that every local child has the chance to develop their musicianship, experiencing the wellbeing that music has to offer, growing in confidence as part of a vibrant, inspiring and caring community.
Concert Band is the most senior of the Chiltern Music Academy’s five wind bands. The group has a varied repertoire ranging from traditional marches and music from the world of musical theatre, film and TV to contemporary suites and orchestral transcriptions. Concert Band has featured regularly at the National Concert Band Festival and was presented with the Platinum Award at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2018. Andy Rogers is an experienced conductor, composer, teacher and accompanist whose association with young musicians in Buckinghamshire began in 1995. He led Chiltern Music Academy as its first Principal until 2020 and he now divides his time between music, travel, geocaching and supporting Wycombe Wanderers.
Recorder Consort
The recorder is the mainstay of Renaissance music, and is very close to the human voice. To play recorder well is technically difficult, and playing in ensemble is extremely rewarding. The sound is mellow and flexible with nuances of colour that you can create as a player. Alex King has been leading recorder ensembles for many years. Much of the repertoire she chooses is very early music arranged specifically for the performers.
She is a Trustee of Chiltern Music Academy.
