Malcolm Peach (Musical Director)

Amersham Concert Brass was formed in 2020 with a focus on concert and performance opportunities for intermediate and advanced level players. The band is conducted by Malcolm Peach. As a newly formed band, it does not yet compete in the Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, but is aimed at a standard comparable to Second Section bands.

Having been formed in January 2020, the band had just seven rehearsals before it was forced to move ‘online’ due to the Covid pandemic. This didn’t dampen the musical spirit of the newly formed band and regular rehearsals continued online, along with a ‘distanced recording’ of a musical arrangement by Malcolm Peach. This activity ensured that momentum was maintained and that when the band could start rehearsing again in May 2021 in our brand new band hall in Amersham, the band personnel were in good shape and there were not too many cobwebs on their instruments!

The band is building up a broad repertoire of concert music and will be performing regularly at local events. The band is once again delighted to be invited to play at the 2022 Amersham Music Festival and promise a varied programme of entertainment for this prestigious event.

Malcolm Peach completed his music degree at the University of Salford’s renowned Band Course under the tutelage of Nick Childs, Andy Duncan, David King, Roy Newsome, and Peter Graham. During his undergraduate studies, Malcolm switched to first study tuba and had his first experiences in conducting. As a conductor, Malcolm has always devoted a lot of time to developing his youth ensembles both in schools and more widely, and since being involved with the Amersham Band group, Malcolm took great pride in working with Amersham Community Brass, which continues now with Concert Brass.
