Welcome to the Amersham Festival of Music website.

2009 is the 250th anniversary of the death of Georg Friedrich Handel, and our festival has several events which commemorate the life and music of this great composer, starting with his alluring opera, Semele, performed by some excellent young soloists and the South Bucks Choral Society accompanied by the Amersham Festival Chamber Orchestra.

The Chenies Manor dinner and concert will take place this year on Tuesday 21st April, where flautist Jennifer Stinton will be accompanied by guitarist, Richard Hand.

At the St James’ Centre in Gerrards Cross we welcome a return visit by the Dominic Alldis Ensemble, led by the renowned jazz singer and pianist. As usual we will be sitting at tables of eight, and enjoying a glass or two of wine with cheese.

We welcome back the Musicke Companye, who gave us such a delightful performance two years ago. This year they will be playing music from 17th and 18th century London.

Peter Medhurst is returning to lead our annual Study Day with lunch, on the subject of Handel in London.

We actively encourage young music-makers, and this year we have three events: a Young Artists’ Recital, this year given by two talented youngsters; a Cello Masterclass taken by the eminent cellist and conductor, Bjorn Bantock; and a Children’s concert given by the popular Travelling by Tuba.

For our final concert this year we have our own excellent Amersham Festival Chamber Orchestra with a talented young trumpeter, Huw Morgan, who won the brass final at the BBC Young Musician Competition in 2006.

We hope that you will find much that appeals to you in this programme and look forward to seeing you - you will be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.
