Mozart Horn Concerto No 4
Iain Ledingham (conductor/pianist)
Richard Wainwright (horn)
Mozart's G major Piano Concerto is one of the loveliest of the great series of concertos he wrote during his years in Vienna. The interplay between pianist and orchestra is fascinating and very colourful, anticipating the drama and wit of Le Nozze di Figaro. In addition our distinguished principal horn player, Richard Wainwright, will perform the 4th of Mozart's delightful and witty Horn concertos. Mozart took great delight in teasing the dedicatee of the concertos, Joseph Leutgeb and the music abounds in good humour and charm.
Haydn is also a composer particularly noted for his sense of humour. His Symphony No 83, La Poule, in G minor, combines the Sturm
und Drang drama often associated with that key with Haydn's irrepressible humour, as displayed in the cheerful clucking melody which gave the symphony its nickname - " The Hen" ! The programme includes another work for solo piano and orchestra, Finzi's Eclogue the very epitome of that composers haunting, pastoral style.
This music will resound to fine effect in the lovely acoustic of St James’ Church, Gerrards Cross
