Join us for a musical celebration of the New Year with a festive programme of Italian Baroque Concertos and other works .
We are fortunate in having two exceptional oboists in our Festival Chamber Orchestra, Christopher Hooker and Claire Philpot and it will be a great pleasure to hear them combine in Vivaldi's delightful Double Concerto.
Corelli's Christmas Concerto is a superb masterpiece by this early baroque composer and an essential part of any Italian musical celebration of the festive season; the final Pastorale evokes the shepherds’ adoration of the Christ-child in music of exquisite tenderness and simplicity. Zipoli's Adagio is a beautiful orchestral version of an organ piece by this composer/priest who went to South America as a missionary and died there.
As a young man Mozart was taken on tours of Italy by his father and, in 1772 the sixteen year old prodigy composed his celebrated motet "Exultate, Jubilate" for the virtuoso castrato singer Venanzio Rauzzini. It ends with the celebrated Alleluia a miracle of virtuosic rejoicing. We welcome Alexandra Oomens, the Australian soprano currently studying at Royal Academy Opera, to perform this delightful piece for us.
Tickets: £ 20, £15 and £10
