The Chiltern Youth Chamber Orchestra was formed in 1998 by Peter Hanson to give local young musicians the opportunity to play together under professional guidance. Now directed by Leon Gee, the group explores and performs the wealth of repertoire written for strings only from Baroque to present day. CYCO has around 25 members aged between 11 and 18; many of our players are current or ex-members of  other orchestras including the National Youth Orchestra, the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain, County Youth Orchestras and local music centres.

The recent collaboration with composer Alison Willis, as part of the Adopt a Composer scheme, resulted in the world premiere performance of ‘Journeys’, inspired by the current refugee crisis. This was recorded by the BBC and broadcast earlier this year on Radio 3.
