The South Bucks Choral Society combines with the Amersham Festival Chamber Orchestra and four outstanding young soloists to present three late masterpieces by Mozart in the fine setting and beautiful acoustic of Eton College School Hall.
The Requiem was composed in response to a mysterious commission and sadly left unfinished at Mozart’s tragically early death. It is a work of great solemnity and dark grandeur in the choral sections, contrasting with the intimate poignancy of the solo writing which seems to express Mozart’s awareness of his own mortality with extraordinary intensity.
Symphony No 39, the first of the final symphonic trilogy has a mellow, autumnal warmth, thanks to the rich woodwind writing and its radiant melodiousness.
