Principal players from our Amersham Festival Chamber Orchestra combine with Iain Ledingham and outstanding mezzo-soprano Charlotte Stephenson in two great works for piano and strings along with Brahms superb songs for mezzo-soprano, viola and piano. Elgar’s Piano Quintet is one of his last and greatest works, comparable in mood and emotional power to the Cello Concerto. Its haunting and noble slow movement is particularly impressive. Mozart’s Piano Quartet in E flat major is chamber music of the highest order, combining strings and piano with the same level of inventiveness and inspiration that we find in the great piano concertos of the 1780’s.
