A celebration of music for plucked and struck strings, played on instruments ranging from the familiar classical guitar and mandolin to the dulcimer, medieval gittern and gothic harp, and even an unsuspecting ukelele. The music spans a full 600 years of music history, from dazzlingly complex medieval instrumental pieces to contemporary Irish reels. These different styles, instruments and historical periods are uniquely blended to emphasise the continuities between them, resulting in a highly original and entertaining programme. Unfamiliar instruments and the various musical curiosities encountered along the way are introduced with informal humour in a presentation that also takes a wry look at medieval number symbolisms and hidden meanings. The result is a relaxed and intimate concert combining the old, new, familiar and exotic into a feast of music played on beautiful and fascinating instruments.
Tickets: £40 (including a delicious buffet supper with wine)
