Anna Cocking, 16, has been studying the piano since the age of seven. She gave her first public performance aged nine at the Wycombe Piano festival. She now studies under Eva Doroszkowska at the Royal Academy of Music and recently took her Grade 8 exam. She has attended several festivals in locations such as Marlow, North London and Richmond. At the age of 13, Anna gave a solo performance at the Wycombe Swan as a class winner from the Wycombe Orpheus Young Musicians award. She has twice been a finalist in the Three Rivers Musician of the Year in Rickmansworth. Two years ago, Anna played in the final of the Thames Valley Young Musician award in Oxford. In addition, she has been studying the viola for the past five years and gained distinction on grade 7 viola last year.
Flora Curzon started to play the violin with the Suzuki method at the age of 4, with Elaine Jordan. She was awarded a place in the National Children’s Orchestra aged 10 and the Chiltern Youth Chamber Orchestra the following year. Learning with Marjory King for 3 years she gained a music scholarship to Oundle School where she was taught by Angus Gibbon. She took the DipABRSM two years ago and the LRSM last Christmas. She was also a member of the English Symphony Youth Orchestra and toured Sicily with them last summer. She is currently the leader of the Oundle School Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra.
She particularly enjoys chamber music, and playing in orchestras, especially 20th century music. She also takes pleasure in singing, composing and swimming and wants to read music at university.
Alexander Rolton was born in London in 1990 and began playing the cello aged five. He also taught himself to play the piano, improvising before he could read music. He currently attends the Rudolf Steiner School in Kings Langley and is a student at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music where he studies the cello with Robert Max. As a cellist in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain he has performed at the Barbican, Birmingham Symphony Hall, St Paul’s Cathedral and in the BBC Proms. Since the age of 13 he has been studying the organ with Terence Charlston and has given a recital at St John’s Church in Harpenden. For six years Alexander has been a member of the CYCO, the last two of which he has been the principal cellist. He plays a French cello which he has on loan from the Benslow Instrument Loan Scheme.
